Dr. Robert Wilson, II, MD, Medical Director of Piedmont Interventional Pain Care, was a featured speaker at the Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions of the The Pain Society of the Carolinas in Charlotte on October 28-30, 2011.

Dr. Wilson spoke on the history, theory, indications, frequency and complications of radiofrequency ablation therapy. He was also appointed the legislative chair of the North Carolina division of the Pain Society of the Carolinas. Dr. Wilson was also a featured speaker at the inaugural meeting of the Pain Society of the Carolinas in December 2010, where he spoke on cervical interventional pain therapy and spinal cord stimulation therapy.

The purpose of the annual program is to educate physicians and health care practitioners in evolving acute and chronic pain management and provide a forum for participants to gain valuable understanding in evidenced based techniques, treatments, and solutions for patients suffering from acute and/or chronic pain.

Educational Objectives of the Pain Society of the Carolinas include:

• Identify, analyze and apply treatment options specific for acute pain.
• Identify, analyze and apply treatment options specific for chronic pain.
• Determine when to apply certain options in conjunction with complimentary techniques thereby employing a comprehensive approach to patient care.
• Identify critical areas of medical pain management thereby promoting excellence in pain care in the participant’s practice.
• Identify and resolve military-specific pain care issues, options and outcomes.
• Coordinate a multi-disciplinary approach to acute and chronic pain that yields less suffering and less emotional, physical, and financial expense to the patient.
• Identification of techniques (ie: pharmacotherapies, imaging, electronic stimulus) and the application of these techniques to individual patients to assist in prescribing the best-individualized treatment plans for acute and chronic pain.
• Understand the interplay of social, emotional and physical symptoms of pain to treat the “total person”.
